Introduction
Teaching has always involved a wide range of duties, from lesson planning and grading papers to fostering student engagement and handling administrative tasks. AI has the potential to enhance teaching while ensuring that technology use does not compromise academic standards.
Lesson Planning and Content Creation
Artificial Intelligence can be used to develop lesson outlines, topic-specific class discussion questions, quizzes, and support materials to help supplement a curriculum and meet grade-level standards. Outputs can be age-appropriate for any group of students, based on grade level and the material. These outputs should be reviewed for accuracy and student readiness before distribution.
Grading Assistance and Feedback
Integrate with external AI engines to generate feedback comments, create rubrics, and surface performance patterns on student work. However, grading and final evaluation decisions should always remain with the educator.
Supporting Diverse Learners
Teachers can leverage AI to differentiate instruction by making complex content more accessible through simplified explanations, additional examples, or translated versions. This is particularly useful for English language learners or for other students who require supplemental support.
Academic Integrity and Policy
Schools and teachers should develop policies for using AI in the classroom, teaching kids how to use it responsibly rather than blocking it altogether.
Ethical and Responsible Use
Teachers should be cautious not to disclose information about their students that could compromise their privacy, and educators should use technology, such as AI, as a tool for instruction, not as a replacement for themselves or to stifle critical thinking.
